In a move it has discussed for some time, on March 1, AAMI opened up a “special category of membership for nonsupervisory professionals in hospitals.” For an annual fee of $85, BMETs, clinical engineers, nurses, sterile processing professionals, and IT specialists will be able to join AAMI as “associate members.” Until this new category was created, the least expensive option for most professionals in this category was an individual membership, for which the annual fee is at least $230.

According to AAMI, associate members will have free online access to AAMI publications, and discounts on webinars, events, and other products. In addition, they will receive a 20% discount on ICC certification exams and renewal fees. They also can can “make their voices heard on AAMI’s discussion groups” and may join AAMI committees. In order to join in this category, individuals must work in nonmanagerial and nonsupervisory roles in healthcare delivery organizations, and must use or repair medical equipment or be an IT professional.
