Healthcare systems integrator Summit Healthcare Technologies announced on May 14 that it has joined the DirectTrust community. DirectTrust is a nonprofit organization created by and for participants in the Direct Project, a federal initiative for standards-based healthcare communication between healthcare providers and patients. The overarching goal of the project is to foster widespread public confidence in the direct exchange of health information.

“Historically, the lack of interoperability across the continuum of healthcare has impacted both the patient and the clinicians who are tasked with providing real-time, informed patient care,” Summit CEO Ted Rossi said in a press release. “We view the DirectTrust organization as another crucial piece of the overall interoperability puzzle, and we are honored to be an early adopter in supporting collaboration and membership growth.”

The Summit Care Exchange technology platform provides hospitals the ability to communicate with in-network or out-of-network healthcare providers by offering direct interoperability with other electronic health records, health information exchanges, and health information service providers.
