A three-part virtual conference beginning on October 2 will cover the risks of robotic surgery systems and effective approaches to surgical robot risk management and training.  The conference will be produced by ECRI Institute in collaboration with Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Conn.

The first session, “The Building Blocks of a Robotic Surgery Program: A Risk Management Approach,” takes place on Thursday, October 2, 2014, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm, ET. Subsequent sessions will take place at the same time of day on Thursdays on October 30 (“Maximizing Staff and Provider Training and Credentialing”) and November 13, 2014 (“Honors Program: Case Studies Demonstrating Opportunities for Prevention of Complications and Risk Mitigation”).

According to ECRI, there are three main learning outcomes for the conference:

  • To learn the major elements of a comprehensive risk management program for robotic surgery,
  • To support the development of a robotic surgery credentialing and training program,
  • To identify specific competencies recommended for surgeons and other members of the surgical robotics team.
