In December 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced new hospital equipment maintenance regulations introducing greater flexibility in the frequency and methods facilities use to perform preventive maintenance. Though largely welcomed by the clinical engineering community, the memo raised new questions concerning how to interpret certain technical vocabulary and how best to comply with the updated guidelines.
In order to clarify remaining confusion, ECRI Institute will host an educational webinar for healthcare facilities on Wednesday, October 15, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm ET. “Clearing the Air on New Hospital Equipment Maintenance Regulations” will address how to avoid miscommunication during CMS audits, how to set appropriate inspection and preventive maintenance frequencies in compliance with the new regulations, and how one accrediting organization has approached enforcing the guidelines.
Jonathan Gaev, ECRI’s business line manager for BiomedicalBenchmark and Randall Snelling, chief physical environment officer of DNV Healthcare, will lead the discussion. Jeremy Suggs, engineering manager of ECRI’s Health Devices, will moderate.
