As previously reported in 24×7, ECRI Institute aims to reduce health technology risks with its publication of an annual list of Top 10 Health Technology Hazards. Now ECRI Institute is hosting an educational web conference to walk hospital staff and other participants through the risks to help them minimize the dangers and improve patient safety. “The Inside Scoop on the Top Ten Hazards List” webinar, to be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM eastern time, will help hospitals turn ECRI’s list of top 10 hazards into a set of preventive actions that can be successfully implemented.

Some of the areas that will be covered in this ECRI webinar include medical device and system dangers such as clinical alarm hazards, data integrity failures in EHRs, and IV line mix-ups, which put patients at risk every day. According to an announcement from ECRI, this webinar is designed to help participants learn more about the items on the list and why some remain top concerns year after year. Also covered will be how to implement key recommendations, and how other hospitals have successfully tackled these issues to reduce risks.

ECRI Institute speakers presenting in this webinar will include James P. Keller, Jr, MS, vice president, health technology evaluation and safety; Eric Sacks, BSEE, director, healthcare product alerts, health devices; and Rob Schluth, Sr, project officer, health devices. The webinar will be moderated by ECRI’s Erin Sparnon, MEng, engineering manager, health devices. The interactive format of this webinar should allow ample time to communicate with the panel during the Q&A session.
