Fujifilm Medical Systems USA Inc and Fujifilm SonoSite Inc presented their latest imaging products—digital radiography detectors and a high-resolution ultrasound kiosk—at the recent American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting held March 24–28 in Las Vegas. According to the announcement, Fujifilm showcased its FDR-DEVO II digital radiography detectors, which the company reports have been completely redesigned with many new and unique enhancements. Also showcased at the event was Fujifilm’s X-Porte high-resolution ultrasound kiosk.

In their news release, the companies emphasized that healthcare professionals know that early information can lead to faster recovery, and explained that this is the reason why many progressive orthopedic surgeons use Fujifilm’s point-of-care ultrasound and advanced needle visualization technology to aid in quicker diagnostics and on-target accuracy.

The redesigned FDR-DEVO II is said to include IPX6 water resistance, improved battery life, improved dose efficiency, and a new internal memory function which stores up to 100 images. The detectors are reportedly 20% lighter than prior models, making them among the lightest for their sizes. They incorporate durable magnesium alloy enclosures and tapered edges to simplify technologist handling and positioning under the patient, and also feature an antibacterial silver ion coating engineered by Fujifilm.

Fujifilm’s ultrasound kiosk, the X-Porte, and its suite of transducers for musculoskeletal exams and injections were designed to minimize side-lobe imaging artifacts, says the company, through a new type of technology—Fujifilm SonoSite’s Extreme Definition Imaging (XDI). XDI is a beam-forming algorithm that significantly reduces the visual clutter from side-lobes that affect all ultrasound products regardless of system size. According to Fujifilm, the resulting ultrasound image appears cleaner with optimal tissue differentiation.
