The annual AAMI Conference and Expo provides the field of healthcare technology management (HTM) with its best opportunity for education and networking. This year’s gathering, centrally located at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver, may prove to be one of the biggest yet. Kicking off Friday, June 5, the 4-day show is expected to draw a crowd of some 1,700 healthcare professionals and nearly 200 vendors. AAMI 2015 promises to connect attendees with some of the most significant products, trends, and thought leaders in healthcare technology.

Educational speakers will focus on critical topics like patient safety, alarm management, health IT integration, and privacy and security. Elsewhere on the 24×7 site, we provide our conference session picks and an overview of key exhibitors. (And while you’re walking the show floor, be sure to stop by the 24×7 booth for the latest issue of the magazine and to meet our staff!)

Although the exhibit hall and educational sessions make up the bulk of offerings at the conference, AAMI also provides a number of other resources for active attendees. Don’t miss an opportunity to connect with your fellow healthcare professionals at events like the Friday welcome reception from 5:30 to 7 pm. Happy hours will take place in the exhibit hall from 4:15 to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Additional conference offerings include the following:

Managing Risks Workshop

Hosted by AAMI and the Healthcare Technology Foundation, this full-day program on Sunday, June 7, is designed to help clinical engineers, BMETs, and other professionals navigate new challenges associated with networked medical technologies. Attendees will learn how to identify methodologies for risk management of integrated devices and apply project management principles to develop, implement, and manage networked systems. The session will include lectures from a number of industry experts as well as case study examples, simulated scenarios, and facilitated discussions.

Alarm Management Workshop

Presented by the AAMI Foundation, this 1-day program addresses The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goal on alarm management. Cochairs Marilyn Neder Flack, executive director of the AAMI Foundation, and Izabella Gieras, board member of the Healthcare Technology Foundation (HTF), will open the session by overviewing the current efforts of the AAMI National Coalition for Alarm Management Safety and the HTF. Five healthcare organizations will then provide case studies of their efforts to combat alarm fatigue. The discussion-based session will highlight successful processes and solutions.

BMET Review Course

BMETs planning to sit for the fall Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) exam may wish to attend this 2-day review course starting Saturday, June 6. Instructors will review basic principles of electronics, anatomy and physiology, codes and standards, and medical equipment operation. Additional topics will include troubleshooting, electrical safety, information systems, and pulmonary function and blood gas analysis.

Career Center

The AAMI Career Center will be available throughout the conference for attendees interested in finding a new position, hiring a qualified employee, or advancing their careers. Two seminars with veteran recruiters will offer tips for crafting résumés, writing cover letters, and completing a successful interview. Representatives from a number of major employers will be on hand to meet with job candidates, including Aramark, TriMedx, and the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Attendees can also post their résumés or job openings at the Career Center.
