Breathe Technologies, a developer and manufacturer of medical technologies for patients with respiratory insufficiency and neuromuscular diseases based in Irvine, Calif, has introduced the Life2000 ventilation system. Cleared by the FDA in June, the system recently received two Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Classified by the FDA as a continuous ventilator, the system is designed for adult patients who require positive pressure ventilation delivered invasively or noninvasively. It can treat both acute and respiratory failure and chronic respiratory failure in acute and post-acute settings. The system is suitable for use in institutional and home settings and is intended to be administered by qualified, trained personnel under the direction of a physician.
According to the company, the Life2000 ventilation system will be commercially available in the United States in late 2015.
