Toshiba Medical Systems announced that Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has installed Toshiba’s Aquilion One Vision Edition to provide patients with advanced CT imaging capabilities. OHSU, a research university with a public academic medical center, acquired the new system to help improve its diagnostic capabilities for trauma, cardiac, stroke, and pediatric patients. The unit is the first 640-slice system in the state of Oregon.

According to Toshiba, the system and its PureVision detector provide high-quality images and fast workflow with 640 thin slices (0.5 mm) and a gantry rotation of 0.275 seconds. The system’s 16 centimeters of coverage is capable of imaging entire organs, like the heart and brain, in a single rotation for faster and more accurate cardiac and stroke exams. The system also features a large 78-cm bore intended to make patients feel more comfortable and safer, and iterative dose reconstruction software (AIDR 3D) that significantly reduces radiation dose compared with conventional scanning.
