WakeMed Health & Hospitals has implemented the Philips eICU Program as a new service solution for the care of critically ill patients. WakeMed is a primary health care provider serving Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and eastern North Carolina.

WakeMed chose the Philips eICU solution to reduce complications, shorten hospitals stays and save lives. The WakeMed eICU Service uses advanced software and continuous remote monitoring technology from Philips Healthcare, Andover, Mass. The technology connects bedside care teams with remote critical care nurses and physicians whose primary purpose is to analyze patient data and track trends from a central monitoring station 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Cameras and microphones integrated into each critical care room allow the eICU physicians and nurses to interact and serve as a resource for the bedside care team, the patient, and the patient’s family.

Currently, patients in the 88 adult critical care beds at WakeMed Raleigh Campus and Cary Hospital use the eICU Service. In the future, the WakeMed eICU Service may be expanded and offered for use in other regional hospitals.
