A monthly look at whats shakin with local biomedical associations
BASW
The Biomedical Association of Southeastern Wisconsin (BASW) took a break from its regular
meetings this month so its members could attend the State Conference and Vendor Show in
Eau Claire, Sept. 24-27. The annual conference, which features an educational track and
other activities, for the first time is a joint effort of the Biomedical Associations of
Wisconsin (BAW) and the North Central Biomedical Association (NCBA) out of Minneapolis.
AlaSHE
The Alabama Society for Healthcare Engineering (AlaSHE) is holding its fall conference
Oct. 2-4 at the Adam Mark Hotel in Mobile. Dr. Janet Stout, a leading expert on legionella
who works in the Special Pathogens Laboratory at the Pittsburgh, Pa., VA Medical Center,
will speak the last day. AlaSHE holds two annual conferences, both of which focus on
member education issues.
NCBA
The North Carolina Biomedical Association (NCBA) is continuing preparations for its 24th
annual symposium, planned for Dec. 2-4, at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. The
preliminary event lineup includes more than 80 vendor exhibits and 20-plus training
sessions, including short courses on ultrasound, monitors, wireless networks, incubators,
ventilators and balloon pumps. The final schedule will be published in the symposium
brochure in October.
GBS
The Gateway Biomedical Society (GBS) at its July meeting tackled the topic of BMET
certification and introduced the societys plans to set up a program to prepare local
biomeds for ICC certification in preparation for the Nov. 2 test date in St. Louis, Mo.
The group will round out the year with regular meetings on Sept. 19 at St. Lukes
Hospital and Nov. 21 at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center.
