NCBA
The North Carolina Biomedical Association (NCBA) held a retreat Feb. 7-8 at the Springmaid
Resort in Myrtle Beach to plan its annual symposium slated for December. At the
associations January meeting, new officers took the helm: Helen Jones, president;
Dan Harrison, vice president; Crisci Fleming, membership secretary; Sam Wright, recording
secretary; and Linda Lietch, treasurer.
NTBA
At a recent meeting of the North Texas Biomedical Association (NTBA) members discussed
patient-oriented safety goals from JCAHO, particularly safety goal No. 6, which deals with
improving the effectiveness of clinical alarm systems. Also, the first Mike Long Memorial
scholarship award was presented to Rod Downing, a medical imaging technology student at
Texas State Technical College.
BASW
The Biomedical Association of Southeastern Wisconsin (BASW) held its Feb. 12 meeting at
the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). Speakers addressed the health-related programs
available at MSOE and offered information on biomedical engineering, perfusion, medical
informatics and nursing. Members also toured the schools various labs on campus.
NESCE
The New England Society of Clinical Engineering will bring DITEC to Hartford (Conn.)
Hospital in June for a three-day course, Principles of Servicing Radiology
Equipment. The program will give biomeds the chance to explore the expanding field
of radiology without the costs and travel associated with attending DITEC in Solon, Ohio.
Class size is limited to 25; registration is $250 and includes lunch. The program is open
to anyone on NESCEs membership list.
