A look at what’s shakin’ with local biomedical associations

 MEPCIS
The Mid Eastern Pennsylvania Clinical Information Society (MEPCIS) planned its first annual Scramble Golf Tournament for June 7 as a fundraiser for both the society and Operation Smile, a not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization. Cash prizes were to be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams; for the longest drive and for closest to the pin; and $5,000 to the golfer who scored a hole-in-one on the sixth hole.

 BASW
A representative from Med-Instrument Services demonstrated First Call 2000 at the May 14 meeting of the Biomedical Association of Southeastern Wisconsin (BASW) held at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee. First Call 2000, a portable, automated ultrasound transducer tester, informs technicians as to whether or not a probe can be repaired. BASW members were invited to bring probes to the meeting for evaluation.

 BMETS
Members of the Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society (BMETS) kicked off their May 15 meeting with hors d’oeuvres at the Olive Grove Restaurant in Linthicum, Md. Speaker Pete Hamm, senior regional service manager with Olympus Medical, presented a short course: “Focus on Endoscopes: Imaging, Construction, Repair Quality and Repair Reduction Strategies.”

 IBS
The Indiana Biomedical Society (IBS) was expected to hold its meeting on June 7 at Hill-Rom headquarters in Batesville, where members could warm up to several Hill-Rom product presentations on infant warming devices, such as Resuscitaire, Radiant Warmer, Infant Intensive Care System, Isolette Incubator and the Transport Incubator. Participants also were looking forward to touring the Hill-Rom showroom for a look at other products, including architectural items, beds and stretchers, and communication systems.
