Statewide BMET Week Developed
Earlier this summer, Ronald D. Snodgrass, president of the North Coast
Clinical Engineering Technology Association (NCCETA), sent a letter of proclamation to
Ohio Governor Bob Taft, requesting that the governor approve his request for an official
clinical engineering and biomedical equipment technology week. Much to Snodgrasss
delight, the proclamation was approved. As a result, the first Clinical Engineering and
Biomedical Equipment Technology Week will take place September 1923, 2005. The weeklong recognition of the biomedical profession coincides with
the re-establishment of NCCETA.

| September 1023, 2005, is Clinical Engineering and Biomedical
Equipment Technology Week in Ohio thanks to Ronald D. Snodgrass (left) and Governor Bob
Taft (right). |
As the newly appointed president of
NCCETA, I felt a proclamation would serve as an important milestone in re-establishing the
biomedical society, which had been inactive for several years, Snodgrass said.
I felt this endorsement would help honor our organization and all the valuable
hardworking biomedical professionals in our great state. I also wanted to join other
successful biomedical societies that have established biomedical technology week
proclamations from their respective state governments.
The week, according to Snodgrass, will serve as a
well-endorsed marketing tool for the profession, offering biomedical equipment technicians
and clinical engineers the chance to advertise their skills and the value they bring to
customers and health care employers.
In honor of the event, the NCCETA will hold a special meeting
at DITEC Inc in Solon, Ohio. |
CCE CertificationWhat You Need to Know
The next Clinical Engineering Certification exam, offered by the
Healthcare Technology Certification Commission, established under the American College of
Clinical Engineering (ACCE) Healthcare Technology Foundation (AHTF), will take place on
November 19, 2005.
The written exam for the certified clinical engineer (CCE)
credential will be given in 28 cities across the United States.
For an extra fee, the written exam can be administered in almost any city in the
United States or in almost any major city in the world.

Service and Support
Certification Programs Developed
Aiming to enhance the operational performance of organizations that
deliver on-site services to technology customers, the Association for Services Management
International and Service Strategies Corp helped create two new industry standards. The Field Service Practices certification program is
targeted at organizations that deliver field technical support, traditional break/fix
repair, and ongoing product-maintenance services. The Professional Service Practices
certification program was designed for organizations that deliver proactive services, such
as product implementations, system integration, and product or service consulting.
These new programs close the loop in
driving quality through the service train, said John Hamilton, president of Service
Strategies. They join the Support Center Practices (SCP) certification
program. SCP certification quantifies the effectiveness of technology-support
operations, establishes a foundation for optimizing business processes, and focuses on
measurable results. For more information, visit www.servicestrategies.com.
