Voltage detector/LED flashlight; vertical display monitor; equipment-location tracker; and remote quality assurance

VOLTAGE DETECTOR/LED FLASHLIGHT

Fluke Corp, Everett, Wash, has announced the Fluke LVD2 Volt Light, a compact pen-style tool that combines noncontact voltage detection from 90 to 600 V AC with a bright, white LED flashlight. Designed for industrial and commercial use, the pocket-sized unit is CAT IV 600 V rated, making it a handy tool for quickly checking for the presence of voltage. The LVD2 Volt Light features dual levels of detection: It glows blue to indicate proximity (within 5 inches) to an AC voltage source, and it changes to red when it is at the source (within 1 inch). This lets users quickly check for the presence of AC voltage without the risk of contact with a voltage source. Its operating temperature is 0°C to 50°C, its LED is good for 100,000 hours of use, and it comes complete with a AAA battery.

VERTICAL DISPLAY MONITOR

Sharp, Mahwah, NJ, has released an upgrade to its 45-inch professional LCD monitor. Designed for use in high-resolution digital signage and medical/health care, the new PN-455RU 45-inch monitor is the first professional monitor that has been designed to operate in both portrait and landscape mode. To ensure reliable operation and backlight life, Sharp has optimized the internal cooling, airflow, and backlight system for use in portrait mode. The monitor has a full, 2MP 1920 x 1080 HD resolution with more than six million pixel elements for accurate and precise image reproduction. The PN-455P monitor with integrated protective acrylic overlay will also be upgraded to the PN-455RUP, adding the option of portrait mode. The line has antiglare and low-reflection properties, enabling Sharp monitors to be placed in brighter areas. The 170° viewing angles help the monitors display a crisp picture that can be seen from virtually anywhere in the room.

EQUIPMENT LOCATION TRACKER

Locate hospital assets and improve efficiencies with Royal Philips Electronics Medical Systems’, Bothell, Wash, turnkey asset-tracking solution. Using Wi-Fi-based technology by AeroScout Inc, the asset-tracking solution is designed around the hospitals’ existing 802.11 wireless infrastructures, allowing hospitals to leverage investments they have already made in their wireless technology. The asset-tracking solution uses technology that includes wireless tags, a location engine, and the MobileView user interface. The tags, which can be attached to most mobile assets, transmit to the hospital’s existing 802.11 infrastructure. This information is fed into the location engine, and the asset’s position can then be portrayed on a map or in a table or report format for any networked hospital user.

REMOTE QUALITY ASSURANCE

Barco, Kortrijk, Belgium, has released an online service for high-grade quality assurance of PACS display systems. The new service, Medical QAWeb, is designed for maximum uptime and diagnostic confidence throughout health care facilities without the need for an up-front investment. The system incorporates a wide array of functions for automated DICOM calibration and quality assurance, effortless display asset management, remote problem solving, and easy reporting. Once installed, the system will permanently monitor all display systems throughout the facility to ensure maximum availability and compliance with DIN-6868-57, AAPM TG18, or other regional quality guidelines. DICOM calibration and quality-assurance tasks are performed automatically in the background without interrupting the daily radiology reading practice. The server-based system allows users to easily log in from anywhere inside or outside the hospital to check the status of every display, or to add one or more additional displays.
