Siemens Healthcare added another honor to its list by winning the gold-level Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA) for the ACUSON P10 ultrasound system during a special ceremony at the Medical Device & Design East Exposition and Conference in New York City.
Winning in the Radiological and Electromechanical Devices category, the Siemens ACUSON P10 ultrasound system—slightly larger than a common PDA—weighs 1.6 pounds and fits easily into a physician’s lab coat pocket. Designed for complementary initial diagnostic care and triage, particularly in emergency care, cardiology, and obstetrics, it delivers visual information at the first patient contact.
The MDEA competition recognizes the achievements of medical product manufacturers and the people behind the scenes who are responsible for the groundbreaking innovations that improve health care. Winning entries excel in product innovation, design and engineering achievement, end-user benefit, and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing and health care delivery.
An impartial multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine, and diagnostics carefully reviewed each product submission and judged the entries. Criteria for judging included user-related design and engineering features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient and improved the overall delivery of health care.
