Texas State Technical College (TSTC), Waco,Tex, has published the book, Biomedical Equipment Technicians by Roger Bowles, EdD, CBET, chair of the biomedical equipment technology program at TSTC.
The book represents the first in a new series of TechCareers books from TSTC. Divided into three parts, Biomedical Equipment Technicians covers careers, education and certification, and information and resources. The book provides an overview of the field including detailed information on career pathways, skill sets, and educational requirements. Featuring profiles of BMET technicians in the field, employers, instructors, and current students, the book also contains program listings, degree plans, and additional industry resources.
Bowles wrote the book due to the lack of materials and books available that could be used in an introductory class. “Hopefully it will serve as an information source to attract people to the field,” he said. A member of the biomedical field since 1991 and a member of 24x7’s editorial advisory board, Bowles became a professor at TSTC in 1997.
