Spanish Biomedical Training Book Now Available in English

Carlos Villafane, CBET, CET, who released Biomédica: Desde la Perspectiva del Estudiante, a biomedical engineering instructional book in Spanish, has now made the book available in English.

“I started receiving a lot of e-mail requests asking for the publication in English,” Villafane said. “I’ve been working on translating the book for the last five months and it’s now ready.”

The English version, Biomed: From the Student’s Perspective, fulfills the same objective as the Spanish version: To give the reader a general idea of what the biomedical/clinical engineering field is about. The book uses easy to understand terms and provides more than a hundred illustrations. Directed to electronics/biomedical students, it helps familiarize students with the repair and maintenance of medical equipment, and explains how important the biomed department is in every health care facility.

“My goal is to educate the reader about the important role of the biomedical technician in the health care industry,” Villafane said. He added that instructors may also find the book useful.

He has worked in the electronics field since 1989 for companies such as Panasonic, GE Healthcare, and Baycare Health System. He said that the idea of writing the book came out of the difficulties he had as a student in Puerto Rico years ago when he noticed the lack of material in Spanish about the biomed field.

Available for purchase through Villafane’s Web site or Barnes and Noble, it sells for $29.95, ISBN #978-1-61539-663-4.
