Keeping Up with Patient SafetyMarking National Patient Safety Awareness Week from March 7 through 13, the FDA offers Patient Safety News (PSN) to improve awareness of patient safety. The FDA PSN, a monthly video news show for health care professionals, covers significant safety alerts, recalls, new product approvals, and offers important tips on protecting patients. Viewers can read the complete stories and watch or download the video program. Even if you receive notification of some of the safety issues through the MedWatch e-list, the FDA advises that many of the PSN stories contain video footage and demonstrations that may be especially useful to clinicians and educators in health care facilities and academic institutions. Stories in the March 2010 edition include: Don’t Use Thermoflect Products with MRI. The maker of Thermoflect blankets, apparel, etc advises against using these antihypothermia products with MRI. National Patient Safety Awareness Week is a national observance sponsored by the National Patient Safety Foundation as an education and awareness campaign to improve patient safety at the local level.
