Walter Reed Taps Awarepoint Wireless Network

Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), Washington, DC, has chosen Awarepoint’s Real-time Awareness Solution as its hospital-wide RFID asset-management system. The system’s hi-tech tools will track the location, status, and movement of the hospital’s mobile medical equipment and staff.

The system will help WRAMC biomedical staff to manage preventive maintenance schedules and respond to product recall notices more efficiently.

Awarepoint’s fully managed service requires no hospital IT resources for maintenance of hardware or software, and needs no hardwiring or fixed infrastructure. Wireless sensors plug into electrical outlets to form the self-healing mesh network.

The selection process involved a vast effort for Walter Reed, one of the Department of Defense’s largest medical treatment facilities, whose expansive layout of 1.1 million square feet features unique building topography and thick cement fortification.
