New Device Freeze Feature Helps Protect IT Assets Remotely

Absolute Software Corp announces the launch of Device Freeze, a new feature for its Computrace, software offering, which can help hospital IT administrators locate computers, designate them for servicing, or prevent device theft or misuse.

The Device Freeze feature remotely interrupts the use of computers and display a persistent on-screen message preventing normal use of the device. On-screen messages can be customized to reflect the particular reason for the computer’s decommission.

IT administrators can remotely unfreeze the screen at any time, enabling normal use of the device.

The feature is now available for PCs running a supported Windows OS with Computrace products that include the Data & Device Security feature category.

The company’s Computrace agent is a small software client that is embedded into the BIOS firmware of a computer, which maintains daily contact with the Absolute Monitoring Center allowing users to manage their IT assets.
