Patients with irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia) are difficult to image with computerized tomography (CT). To address this challenge, Carnegie Hill Radiology, New York, installed the Aquilion PRIME 160 series from Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc, Tustin, Calif.

The Aquilion features SURECardio Prospective software that automatically adjusts for irregular heartbeats. 

“A large number of our exams are cardiac, and Toshiba’s Aquilion PRIME enables us to accurately image patients with arrhythmia, expanding our imaging capabilities,” said Steven Wolff, director, Carnegie Hill Radiology. “The system automatically adjusts for the patient’s heart rate, speeding up exams, limiting retakes, and lowering radiation dose.”



In addition to cardiac imaging, Carnegie Hill Radiology utilizes Aquilion PRIME for general exams, including standard brain, abdominal, pelvic, and lung imaging. Aquilion PRIME is an 80-detector row CT system that can generate 160 unique slices per rotation and features a 7.5-MHU large-capacity tube and 0.35-second scanning. The system also features AIDR 3D, Toshiba’s third-generation iterative dose reconstruction software, which incorporates system enhancements by reducing radiation dose compared with conventional scanning.
