From May 21–27, the industry will celebrate Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Week, an event designed by AAMI to promote the awareness of—and appreciation for—the critical work of biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, imaging specialists, laboratory equipment specialists, and other members of the HTM field. 24×7 Magazine is celebrating this event, too, with a special contest.

In honor of HTM Week, 24×7 Magazine is asking readers to nominate a colleague who has demonstrated excellence in the HTM field. E-mail chief editor Keri Forsythe-Stephens at [email protected] to tell her how this individual has positively impacted patient care or “saved the day” in 300 words or less by Friday, May 31. The individual cited in the most compelling case will receive a $50 VISA gift card, as well as recognition in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

24×7 Magazine isn’t the only entity planning events around HTM Week, however. AAMI’s Technology Management Council (TMC), which created HTM Week, has planned a number of events that will run throughout HTM Week. Two of the highlights include:

AAMI’s AED Challenge

During HTM Week, AAMI is challenging HTM professionals to tackle a shocking issue in their communities—automatic defibrillators, such as those found in the local mall or community center, may not work when they are needed most. Why? These life-critical devices need regular inspections and maintenance, but that doesn’t always happen, meaning batteries and pads may have expired.

To help address this problem, the TMC is encouraging HTM professionals to raise awareness of the importance of routine AED inspections in their communities. Learn more about the challenge.

Free Online Town Halls

The TMC will host two virtual town hall meetings. The first session, scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, at 1 p.m. ET, will explore the information technology (IT) skills HTM professionals need to acquire to serve as a “bridge” between the two departments. The best ways of acquiring these skills also will be addressed. Click here to register.

The second town hall will be held Thursday, May 25 at 1 p.m. ET. It will cover frequently asked questions related to the management of wireless technologies in healthcare. Members of AAMI’s Wireless Strategy Task Force will provide their expertise and will respond to attendees’ questions. Click here to register.
