The Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise’s Patient Care Device Domain (IHE-PCD) invites all clinical engineers, BMETs, IT groups, clinicians, and developers to attend its open meeting at ECRI Institute on October 18.

What does Meaningful Use have to do with devices such as patient monitors, ventilators, and pumps? According to the release, while the focus has been on the 2011 goals for reimbursement, only a few short years beyond that there are requirements for the integration of medical device data in the EMR/EHR. There are numerous standards that could be applied, but identifying and implementing the right standards is difficult. To help cut through the confusion, IHE-PCD is developing integration profiles to spell out data transfer between bedside devices and health care information systems.

Following an overview of the accomplishments of IHE-PCD and its plans for the future, the PCD planning committee will discuss how to set a course to deliver relevant integration profiles in time for Meaningful Use. The organization encourages involvement and seeks new clinical and technical people to bring perspectives on the practical implications of connectivity.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 am at ECRI Institute’s office in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. Participants are welcome to stay for lunch. Please RSVP and indicate whether you will be staying for lunch.
