BBS Medical AB, a Swedish medical device manufacturer, has released a new ultrasound probe testing system to help biomedical engineers in hospitals promote quality assurance and patient safety. The ProbeHunter is a dynamic multibrand testing device that offers real-time testing across 256 channels and includes new features like image, color, and Doppler validation. The system can validate probes from a number of manufacturers, including GE, Siemens, Philips, Toshiba, Esaote, Zonare, Mindray, Hitachi, Aloka, and others.

The company says it has engaged in ultrasound probe testing for the last 12 years, developing a testing database in partnership with the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. In hospitals that do not regularly test their ultrasound equipment, the company says, as many as 35–40% of probes may be faulty, potentially resulting in faulty diagnoses for patients.

The ProbeHunter system software can run on both PC and iOS. The system’s adapters are compatible with the FirstCall system from Unisyn.
