Volpara Solutions has released VolparaDensity 3.0, a breast density assessment tool available for clinical use with digital breast tomosynthesis data sets from multiple manufacturers. According to the company, the new breast density assessment tool provides both volumetric breast density measurements and an ACR breast density category from most digital mammography vendors. It can reportedly provide a density score while the patient is still present at the assessment facility.

According to Volpara Solutions, the new tool helps increase consistency and compliance with state laws while improving productivity and workflow.

“VolparaDensity with 3D breast tomosynthesis brings a powerful new combination to the early detection of breast cancer and allows us to further tailor the screening protocol for each woman based on dose and clinical benefits,” said Bruce F. Schroeder, MD, Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists in Greenville, North Carolina, which recently began using the GE SenoClaire 3D breast tomosynthesis system.

Volpara reports that its VolparaDensity 3.0 for use with Hologic tomosynthesis systems is available now. The company reports that the new version of SenoClaire for GE tomosynthesis is slated for release in early 2015. The version for use with Siemens tomosynthesis units is pending FDA approval.
