On April 30, respiratory device manufacturer ResMed, San Diego, announced a series of noninvasive ventilation devices that feature built-in wireless connectivity. The Lumis 100 VPAP S, Lumis 100 VPAP ST, and Lumis 150 VPAP ST support a variety of therapy modes and integrated humidification, the company says.

According to Resmed, the new noninvasive ventilators constitute its first ventilation platform with IntelligentAir, a collection of proprietary technologies the company says “can tailor therapy to individual breathing needs.” These technologies include a volume-assurance therapy mode, an intelligent backup rate, and a system to maintain upper airway patency. Other features allow for the personalization and fine-tuning of an individual patient’s synchrony and comfort.

Built-in wireless connectivity enables next-day access to a wide range of therapy parameters, including blood oxygen saturation when an oximeter is attached. These data, along with therapy statistics and trend data useful for home titration and monitoring, are automatically and securely transmitted to a cloud-based patient management system.

According to ResMed, the new ventilators allow for quick setup, thanks to color screens, improved menu formats, and push-dial navigation. Toggling between the settings and monitoring screens enables users to see the real-time impact of configuration changes.

The Lumis series launched in some European markets in April. A global rollout is planned in additional regions throughout 2015 and early 2016.
