In a joint letter to President Obama, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) offered help in improving the delivery of healthcare through systems engineering principles.

The letter was written as a response to a report released in May, “Better Health Care and Lower Costs: Accelerating Improvement Through Systems Engineering.” Written by the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, the report advocates the use of systems engineering in healthcare.

According to the report, several barriers hamper the increased use of systems engineering in healthcare. “We wanted to offer our joint expertise to help overcome the barriers to systems engineering in healthcare,” said AAMI President Amy Logan.
