The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association has presented Ky.-based Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with its 2019 Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award for its dedication to achieving the Energy Star distinction.

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital achieved its Energy Star goal after a five-year journey. Their efforts included updating all fluorescent lighting to LEDs and installing motion sensors to automatically power down spaces not in use. Since the onset of this initiative in 2014, the hospital has decreased its energy consumption by 21.5%, which has resulted in savings of $1.7 million.

The savings have been invested back into the hospital to continue providing high-quality, reliable and safe patient care. The Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award recognizes individuals or facility management departments that implement new or innovative programs or processes to optimize the physical environment and improve patient care.
