The Virginia Biomedical Association plans to hold its 2008 Winter Meeting on February 8 at the Wintergreen Ski Resort in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains.

The event targets biomedical and plant maintenance department managers, risk managers, Joint Commission coordinators, patient safety officers, supervisors, and biomedical technicians who are intent on boosting their technical knowledge and increasing their skills in dealing with the Joint Commission national patient safety goals, and handling survey processes and incident investigations.

The expanded presentation features three parallel sessions from 9 am to 4 pm, with a Joint Commission surveyor, a presenter from ECRI, and an instructor from Sonora Medical Systems Inc, for a service school. Ultrasound basics for biomeds will provide an overview of the basic design, architecture, and characteristics of modern diagnostic ultrasound systems and transducers, and offer training on common terminology and clinical applications of ultrasound, the need and rationale for evidence-based quality assurance, techniques for integrating QA into maintenance activities, methods and tools for maintaining ultrasound systems, and the frequency of maintenance for ultrasound systems in general.

Hotel rooms are available at a discounted rate, as are a limited number of lift tickets.
Pre-registration is required and attendees must RSVP by February 1. For more information, contact Greg Mika at (434) 982-7758 or e-mail [email protected].
