Joint Commission International (JCI) announces that its newest accreditation program will focus on primary care.

The standards introduce the most important elements of patient safety, and create the capacity for the primary care organization to continually improve its quality of services to benefit patients.

An international panel of primary care experts developed the new standards, which were extensively reviewed by primary care providers worldwide. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition of primary health care also guided its content and focus.

JCI will make the standards for this program publicly available.
